Rats
Pest LibraryBrown rats are the most common type of rat in Maryland. Brown rats are often referred to as sewer rats, common rats, street rats, or water rats. They burrow under homes, within trash piles, around bodies of water, or other areas close to a food or water source. Rats are excellent swimmers, as well as being very adventurous eaters, and need to constantly chew or gnaw to keep their ever-growing teeth under control. Similarly to mice, rats are also known carriers of other pests like lice/fleas, as well as diseases like Hantavirus and Lyme disease. Keeping the rat population under control in your city starts with your home or office, so if you’re noticing signs of a rat infestation, call us right away!
SIGNS OF A RAT INFESTATION INCLUDE:
- bite or chew marks in food containers or on any food left out
- rat droppings found within the home
- finding nesting material, like shredded paper or fabric
- holes chewed through walls or floors that give entryway to your home
Rats are nocturnal and excellent hiders, so seeing one rat is usually a sign of more. If you see signs of a rat, or the rat itself, give us a call! Keep rats away by setting up a comprehensive plan with us.
